3D printed wood table sign holder

One of the projects I'm most proud of last year was a set of 3D printed wood table decorations for a small wedding. It was my first big custom design and my first time printing with wood filament.

I found a picture of a slice of wood that I liked and converted it into a height map for importing into Microsoft 3D Builder. I stood it up, mirrored it, and cut a slice out to hold the card. As you can see from my pink protoypes, it took a few tries, but that's the joy of 3D printing! Printing with wood filament was tricky and I had several failed prints, but finally got into the groove. I painted the edges and customized the bottom with the date and the couple's initials.

I completely nailed the brief and the couple loved them. It's so satisfying to tackle a project you're not sure you have the skills for and have it turn out even better than you envisioned.
